Some one called the wildlife rescue about people petting the cormorants.

Neither the offenders or the cormorants were around.

Entered this photo contest last month
dsc_9181_01.jpg

Made it through two rounds - artistic - did not get deleted, but did not win.
dsc_9184_01_222762.jpg

The three judges picked up to five photos in each category giving a max of fifteen photos per category before yesterday. They were doing the judging in front of us last night. It started at 6pm and after 2.5 hours they never got to my other four photos. They reviewed each photo and discussed how it could have been better. If two out of three liked it, it went to the next round.

We left since it was dark and the skies looked like it might rain. Did I mention we pedaled there? Then, we couldn't get out of the parking lot because our bikes wouldn't trip the automatic gate!! After fifteen minutes Chris figured out how to trip the gate.

The website hasn't been updated yet so I have no idea how my other photos faired. There were a lot of great shots.

Well you are a winner with us Marilynne. That shot has me looking around at more details now when we are out and about.

I really like that Osprey shot, beautiful and powerful looking birds. Great shot.

Thanks Kevin for the kind words. If I enter that contest next year, I won't be attending the judging!! You should always look around for inspiration.

I was surprised I captured the liftoff on the osprey. Usually I have the lens out to far.

EXCELLENT Osprey photo's Marilynne... any idea why your photos only show capture date in Exif?? Just curious..

Pat in NH

Thanks Pat.

Don't know why, but that info use to show up in the gallery. Just looked and it no longer appears. I'll have to check ViewNX2.

Here's the EXIF for both.
Aperture F5.6
Shutter 1/2000s
EV +0.5
ISO 500

Edit: Looks like that info is lost when resizing in ViewNX2.

Yea, I dont think I would stick around for the judging either. I am always looking at pic's for inspiration as well as trying to figure out how they shot it. Never entered a contest besides on Nikonites, maybe I should start looking for them to see what happens.

Last year I entered the Loxahatchee Wildlife Refuge photo contest and took honorable mention for a butterfly. In December they mailed me a 2014 calendar and two of my photos were in it. Honorable mention was great on my first try, but seeing my photos in print in the calendar (that they sold in the gift shop) made it really exciting.

Marilynne,

Congrats on the contest! No matter the results, you are a winner by the experience!! Good Job!

Thanks Pat and last night was quite an experience I hope never to go through again!!!!

Just discovered the program for my watermark is stripping the EXIF data, not ViewNX
2. Downloading the latest version to see if that will fix it.

Thanks Vixen. The calendar shots are in post #2417 if you want to see them.

Usually I mess up the take off, but somehow managed to pull it off this time. Guess that means I'm getting better.

Marilynne, I found the perfect boat for you today to purchase and expand the oceanic reach of your photography. It'll require a little fixing up sure, but a little putty and Bondo and she'll be ready for adventure.

Actually, I think it's the Gilligan and Skippers' Minnow finally found ..... 160 Miles from the ocean. This thing is sitting in someone's yard in rural South Carolina!
