Ok well, I am not going to start a new thread and bore you all with photos of my family and their friends. I will just post a few more in here and let that be representative of how most of the shoot went for me.

I don't know how many of you have encountered this but, do you ever go to shoot events and just feel like not one person gives a damn whether you take pictures or not? Just no interest?

Are they not interested or do they just not think about what it takes, from photographer and participants, to make a half decent photo?

Granted, there were a few that wanted, and was willing, to put themselves where they needed to be to do the portrait.

Others just grab hold of someone and wave at me and say "come take our picture!". When you get over there you look around and no where anywhere near them or behind them is a decent backdrop or th ey are in the worst area of light imaginable.

Anyway, rant OFF.

Of the photos I got, from those that cooperated, they all turned out pretty well. Most all of them were pretty much just like what you will see posted below. Not what I would have wanted had I been in compete control but acceptable for what this was.

Now I mentioned some of those that were just wanting their photo taken wherever they were at the moment. I just did the best I could do. Use my lens to blur the background as much as possible and keep as much of the background as possible out of my photo.

Those mostly looked like this. I don't think this is a bad shot nor do I think it is a bad way to do a photograph. It just isn't what I had planned on doing at this event.

I would bet that the people there will be thrilled with the shots you got. Now how many people did you see getting out their phones to take photos? How good do you think they look? Even the one with the room in the background looks good. Birthday girl in the middle and smiles on everyone's face. What more could you ask for?

Not wanting to waste the whole afternoon I made all attempts to capture some of those non-posed moments and intimate moments between people who may not see each other very often. These will mean things only to those who know who are in the photos but I guess that is what makes family memories.

These are wonderful. These are the types of photos I really love to see from an event like this or a wedding.

Thought you did well Mike. Flouescent is a monster sometimes to photograph under. Your colors are quite good.

Thank you sir! What I did before I started the shoot was use my white terry towel to get a "Pre" white balance setting under those lights. I also had enough light to not need any flash at all so I didn't have to fight two light source colors.

There were only a few others taking any photos at all. Mostly small point and shoots and Iphone shots of their own family. All of my stuff is uploading to Zenfolio as we speak so they will be able to see them all soon.

Mike, you've done a really nice job of capturing these images...the birthday girl will LOVE them! :)

When a friend celebrated her 80th birthday, she had a party at the church. I tried to take photos of everyone who attended as well as photos of her during various activities. It was the photos of her friends in attendance that she loved the most, and she carried that photo album with her for weeks and weeks. Even years later she told me while looking though it, she was saddened to see some of the people were no longer living; however, she was very glad to have their photos because she cherished seeing them.

Kudos to you for taking such care in getting the best photos possible! ;)

I love that old woman. She has been my "stand in for a mom" since my mother died in 2003 at 62 years old. This old woman, my mothers older sister, is still ticking!
