Elements 11 and very tentatively.

Lawrence, I've used several of the Photoshop Elements versions--5, 6, etc. Currently I am using PSE10. I watched some online videos at Adobe's web site. Have you watched any of them? Here is a link for their PSE11 videos in case you haven't yet seen them.

Adobe's videos did help me, but what really increased my knowledge was a Simon Sez IT training tutorial. I *thought* it was a DVD, but it installed on my computer then allowed me to play the videos. This would be the one specifically for PSE11:

Day 19

So disasters happen. Not the end of the world.
Todays goal was to start learning about, and trying my hand at, HDR.
Big fail
Read all about it before setting off.
Thought my camera was set up correctly and for some shots it was.
For others it reverted back to single shot with no encouragement from me! ?????
And some took three shots but only produced one. Did I ask the camera to do my work for me? Hell no!
And then for those that did take 3 (all on tripod btw) when merging them they wouldn't line up.
Go figure.
Server seems to be playing up so I am going to have a beer (Heineken) and try to upload later.

Did you use the bracket function, or multiple exposure function? Because multiple exposure will merge the images in camera, and this cannot be used for HDR. (It can be used for other fun stuff, though.)

HDR you merge on the computer.

Happy Heineken ;)

Mel I didn't use the HDR function as that only has 2 shots.

Whatever I used I tested before going out.
This is the result of that test - a photo taken down the side of the house, hand held.

First the 3 originals and then the HDR.

Sorry seem unable to upload for the time being. Will do it tomorrow. I think it is the server switch that is playing up.

Decision made.
Day 19 will be one I look back on as a learning curve or a day I would like to forget.
Note to self: Instead of harping on about it just start from scratch learning HDR and more specifically my camera settings.

To prove I did take a photo (or two) on the day here is my test HDR (which I was unable to duplicate for some reason) and a feel good photo.
Note the test HDR is not a pretty shot - it was never meant to be.

The HDR function? Do you mean multible exposure function? Because I thought that was HDR once, but its actually to place different images on top of eachother. I tried it, first I took an image of myself against bright sky, afterwards an image of some flowers - result was, my face was showing but now filled with flowers....

I think the problem may be, there isn't enough contrast in the image! That is why you don't really see the HDR.. Do you have sunshine now? Because then try at an area, where the sun is hitting directly, but where you got much darker shadows too.

Day 21

A bit of a mixed bag today.

Came across this colourful kiddy center.

And on the other side of the modern spectrum a burnt and gutted house.
This is an internal room and the good thing about it is that it proves I need a wide angle lens.

And it was an angry sky this afternoon that awaited me.

On the way home I had to cross this line which was headed into darkness.

And at home I tried a home invented photo box using a book shelf to take this one.

Looks really good, Lawrence :) That burnt house I like a lot, the colors are great. Your train train tracks are superb too!
