Siamese cat.jpg

Photo taken with a Nikon D90 and 50 1.8D
f1.8 @ 1/800
ISO a whopping 3200
Processed in LR 5.3, Nik Silver Efex2. Dfine2

This cat is a super shy feline and in the photo op I wanted to keep her cloaked in the shadows. She was peering out a window with the shade partially drawn.

I wanted to catch her curiosity, but also impart how she liked to watch from the shadows.

Image was also cropped.

(Also this is an older image...one of the first captured with my D90)

I am just looking for a what could have been better. Please feel free to edit!

I wouldn't change anything in this picture. I like how her head is the focus of the picture and how the light sets her head apart from the shadows. I also like the background (looks like a metal screen)...kinda has an industrial feel that I like. Also, the shadows are subtle and do not fade details in the picture. The light on her face ties everything together nicely in my opinion. Super photo.

Excellent s hot! Only thing I might change would be a little more of her front feet out of shadow. Maybe . . . that is. This photo works well as it is.

LOVE the feel of the photo. edit: removed blah blah nonsense here. The lighting on the face combined with the shadowy touches... perfect!

LOVE the feel of the photo. I would have like to see the whole head in the pic, as it feels a bit chopped on the right side, but that's just non professional opinion. The lighting on the face combined with the shadowy feel... perfect!
Hmm I see all its head :) just some in shadow.

A big Thank You to everyone that has looked so far! Does the square crop for this shot work? I was kinda forced into this crop because I put Shaktis' head dead center in the frame. (Really....I had not read about The Rule of Thirds yet. Yep...still learning. Half the time I completely forget about composition and just shoot what I feel.)

This is going to be a gift...framed and everything....for my Aunt. (She is the cats human....I mean you can't own a cat. They tend to own us.) And since I am new to all this stuff I really appreciate everyone's input!

The head is on the right "third" in this crop, even though it's centered vertically, and I think it's great. Plus, rule number one, if your Aunt loves it, who cares what anybody here thinks anyway??

I think it's a winner!

I think it's a lovely shot. If I had taken it the only thing that would bug me would be the crop so close to the end of the tail and the post/pipe but that's being pedantic. Can't say I'd change anything else. You gotta love what that 50d can do for the price. Actually one of the nicest captures I've seen here. Well Done.

Yeah. I was still in my just taking photos stage instead of capturing photos. I had just moved from a Canon SX40HS to the nikon D90. I never really paid attention to the whole rule of thirds, or even basic composition rules.

If only what I knew then what I know now. But even with those errors I still found myself drawn back to this image. So I gave it another shot....

As for the 50d. For the 112 bucks I paid it has more than paid for itself.

LOve this photo. The eyes of the cat are making this photo special. Wonderful mood.

Thank you! It is a gorgeous feline. I can't remember what she was looking at at the time. But you could tell she was just on the verge of running...but she still had that focused curiosity look of seeing something new for the first time. You can almost see what she is thinking.
