Well, maybe not that spectacular but the 70-300mm VR ED lens is now in my hands! It arrived this afternoon as I sat outside watching for the mail carrier with my binoculars. :emmersed:

Man, this thing is a beast. I wasn't expecting it to be this heavy. That is not an issue for me but it is more substantial than I was expecting.

I am thrilled to have this lens! Also, on another note, I am surprised at how much brighter this lens is than the 55-200mm even though it is a lot more focal length (and is also an FX lens so even more perceived length).

And for photos?

I am posting the first shots in "My bird shots are just horrible! Need help!" thread.

It's brighter? Really? It isn't quite as fast as the 55-200mm f/4-5.6. Yes, the 70-300mm is heavier, but you will get used to it! It is a stellar lens. :) Congratulations and enjoy!

My 70-300mm lens doesn't seem heavy to me. But I do have several old ai lenses I use too, and I'm sure they are heavy! Lol :D

Try a 70-200.

You mean a 70-200mm f/2.8 ?

No that would be try a sigma 200-500 F2.8! :D

I have an idea. Both of you send me your lenses and let me check them against the 70-300mm

I could just swear it has a brighter view but it may just be my wide open eyes with excitement!
