A Moment of Madness

I have the 55-200mm as well as the current 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 and will say that there is a difference optically between them. The 55-200mm lens is terrific on its own, but after switching solely to the 70-300mm, it is remarkably sharp. And as you mentioned, the longer reach is nice to have. The other benefit is that the 55-200mm has a plastic mount while the 70-300mm is metal.
I concur. The 55-200 *is* a great lens; the 70-300 is simply *better* on almost every point that matters.

That's great Lawrence! Enjoy those lenses! I had my own moment of camera spending madness yesterday too. I'm feeling very guilty today, but that will pass after my package gets here later.

The news just keeps getting better and better.
Unfortunately it will be a while for the Adorama purchases to arrive but I am expecting the 18 - 105 today (Friday) or Monday at the latest. I must confess to staring out the window every few minutes. :)

I have added 3 new lenses as well in the past week and a D7100!

Show off and thread stealer! ;)

And this is the one I am worried about so this is very welcome comment. Thanks wud

At first I almost only used that one, and wasn't sure if it was for me. Then I left it in the closet for a while, but got it out again - and its like glued to my camera since then. I do change for others, but I love-love-love the 35mm (mine is f/2, but I only read great stuff about yours).

Wait a minute... Concerned about a 35mm f/1.8G?

View attachment 61630

That's a GEM of a lens... I'd give up a LOT of other glass before I'd let go of my 35mm.

.....

Yes!

I am sure I will be happy with it - my little twinge was because I read such rave reviews about the 50mm, or was that 55mm? I can't remember
And then there is the 85 …..
Learn to crawl Lawrence, learn to crawl ...

Dont know the 55mm but my Sigma 50mm and Nikon 35 cant really be compared, they are very different. The nifty50 are smoooooth but a little slow, the 35 are like an ice skating princes in her best age :applause:

The 35mm v. 50mm argument? Dear gawd... That horse is soooo dead. The 85mm f/1.8G *is* another gem of a lens, and it's near and dear to my heart, but it's not going anywhere so you can relax, cowboy; you done good and scored some majorly, MAJORLY nice glass.

You should consider sweating your technique this much. ;)
