I wasn't expecting this. I was watching some people fish and watching some dolphins when this came up to breath! I'm not sure what type of whale this is yet.

Thanks! I've been on whale watches in Maine in the past, so you expect whales. But, this blew my socks off. I was complaining that I couldn't see anything with the sun glaring on the LCD screen on my Nikon L820, so I went back to the cottage for my D3100, which is only a 3 minute walk. When I came back to the beach my wife was screaming there's a whale! I was just going to question her when out the corner of my eye I see a huge thing flipping over with it's mouth open with two dolphins breaching next to it. You might know where I'm at. I'm staying along route 50 on Top Sail Island. Just a few 100 yards from the ocean
