Nik software

I bought the Nik collection back in March and I'm very pleased with it. I was wondering if anybody has received updates as I haven't and I can't see any on their website.

I don't remember seeing any either. And I do agree, Nix Collection is the best. Don't know what I would do without it.

Link please where those of us who have no idea what this is can read about it.

Not long after Google bought Nik there was a quick update and I believe it notified me when I opened the program. So I'm thinking when they do update it, your software will let you know.
And once you're up to speed with all the goodies that Nik gives you and you get a feel for how you like your images to be rendered, start preparing your own presets. it's a huge time saver to call up one up and then make the subtle adjustments as needed.

Hmmm. I just looked at the bundle and will probably get it. I was looking for HDR software but couldn't decide on Phomatix Pro. I think i'll give this a try.

I believe like everything Google the Nik Suite is now set to self-update by default and, as Dave said, should notify you when it does - though like many pop-ups, if you're not looking you may not catch it. Also, like all things Google, it's impossible to find information about versions and updates on their website, which is minimally informative.

That said, this suite has become so integrated in my workflow that I'd be lost without it - at least for a week or two. Dfine is an amazing noise reduction tool, Viveza virtually eliminates the need to even think about adjustment layers and masks, and Silver Efex Pro is the best B&W converter I've ever used. I've barely scratched the surface of what I can do with Color Efex Pro after almost a year, but some of the filters have become essential to me for certain types of shots. And HDR Efex Pro is a superb tool.

It's the shizzle, ma nizzle!! ;)

PS - If I have one complaint it's that the individual tools still suffer from a lack of cohesion in terms of what key strokes do. For example, space bar is used for 100% zooms in Color, Silver and HDR Efex, but not Viveza where I have to double-click or use the zoom tool.

I am another NIK convert. It has made a big difference to what I can do with my photos. After I have done some basic adjustments in Aperture, I put them through Dfine and Viveza, really pollishes them up nicely.

I think I would be lucky to be using 5% of what they are capable of, but I have a book on order - My new book: Plug In With Nik - John Batdorff Photography Blog , hopefully I will be able to utilise them a bit more when I learn a bit more about what they can do, and how to do it.

Edit- apparently they are reprinting the book, so I am waiting for it to become available, they tell me by the end of this month.

Brad, your book post reminded me that Nik used to have a phenomenal learning center where they would host regular free webinars with experts that were incredibly helpful in getting up to speed with the product. Alas, it is gone now, though I can only hope that it's migrated to Google+, which is something I've yet to get up to speed with. They seem to have migrated at least some of the free educational videos that used to be there over to YouTube. These are extremely helpful in learning the tools.

That said, who am I not to adapt, so I'm taking a shot at my first Google+ "Hangout" at 1PM today as they do a 45 minute session on Silver Efex Pro 2. Not sure how much I'll learn about anything other than hangouts, but it's something, right?

So if I understand correctly, you are invoking Silver Efex Pro 2 from Elements and this is the result, right? Does it look like this in Silver Efex or only when you get back to Elements? What type of file are you editing, RAW, Tif or JPEG?

It's odd because I was originally going to say that it looks as if it could be a hodge-podge of all the various treatments, but I see several negatives, and Silver Efex doesn't use that. Are you using the B&W Conversion filter in Color Efex Pro 4 instead?

I'd ping the support like at Google with a copy of your image and the details of how you're getting it and see what they say. The were very responsive when I had an issue with HDR Efex Pro. Or, if you have time, they're doing a Google+ Hangout on Silver Efex in 2 1/2 hours, maybe join in and see if they ask for questions. If they do and you're not there I may try to ask for you.

Its a raw file from the D70 opened in elements, then a copy opened to get it away from the raw editor and into the elements section where i have access to filters and nik silver ef pro 2,its normal after the conversion but when i click ok to accept the conversion it changes to this.
If i use the elements BW conversion its fine, ime using windows 8
