Sigma 70-300mm thoughts?

I'm thinking of buying this lense to use with my D3100. Anyone have any useful tips on it or any similar lenses?

if you intend to use it hand held then you may find it difficult to get good shots without any image stabilisation ( OS on sigma, VR on nikkor) On a tripod it should be ok I had one but even in bright daylight I found it near impossible to get non blurry shots. Heres the best one I managed, This bird was about 20 meters away. After this I returned the lens as it did not suit my purposes, I now have a nikon 55-200 vr

I have the Sigma 70-300mm with Macro.It's a good lens.I've used it on the D90 and D300 with good result.Nice walk around lens.
