Macro Cicadia Opportunity So Close

I was out at a local pharmacy this evening and on my way out to my car I saw an adult Cicadia crawling on the side walk, and not wanting to pass up the opportunity to photograph it, I quickly ran my purchase out to my car and went back into the store to find a container to place the Cicadia into for the ride home.

Of course there was a line to wait in and the customer in front of me had to try three credit cards before one of them would work. All the while I'm waiting, I'm worried about the Cicadia flying off and missing a golden photo opportunity.

I paid for my bar soap holder and quickly went outside to see the Cicadia still crawling on the sidewalk, much to my relief, about 30 feet away. As I walked toward it, a lady came around the corner holding a young boys (4-5 years) hand; sure enough, he saw the Cicadia, launched himself into the air and landed upon it, totally smashing the Cicadia. And my hopes of doing some macro work tonight.

When I was his age, I likely did the same kind of thing.

Yes, we recently were blessed with the once every 17 year visit of these beautiful creatures. They come out make a lot of noise and in about a month, they're gone.
