The black blob with weirdly angled feathers is actually one of our neighborly - or not so neighborly - crows. Not sure what I was thinking when I took this. :)

I tried a spider - Handheld -40mm. I've learned using a tripod is much better

Here I've to find the focus point

I keep on learning - practising and finally I will post beautiful Close-up's

How can I get the pics a bit bigger in the posting????

The spider really isn't that bad, you just focused on the legs instead of its body. The legs are very sharp. Try manual focus, that is what I usually do for macro shots.

Did you know that red squirrels run really, really fast? Here are two attempts at trying to get images of two different red squirrels that I encountered this morning on my walk. HaHa! I can't even blame the dog for moving. She sat perfectly still while I was trying to get the photos.

Yes, that brown blob is the squirrel. :)

This is what happens when you pan the subject well but your shutter speed is way too slow.

This was just after the rain stopped yesterday evening. I was out in my back yard shooting some nice cloud formations when this guy came along overhead. I ALMOST got him in focus....had to shoot fast, and had the 18-105 lens on the D40. That's a young hawk, by the way.
