This is one of my early efforts after getting my D3100 a couple of weeks ago. I will be delighted to get your views on it.

Nikon D3100
18-55 mm VR lens
55mm, VR off.
Auto close-up mode + flash
1/60th, f8, ISO 100

Original image cropped, dust reflections on bee removed and image slightly lightened.

Colors are great, very good detail and well placed subject to the 1/3 rule. Only net it to much
negative space or to much of a busy background (distracting). Just tighten up the crop a tad
say 1/2 to 3/4 inch all the way around the image and it is there. Thanks for posting.

Take care,

Thanks for the advice, Dwayne. I've cropped the photo a bit more and it is really tight now. Pity I can't show the photo in real size as the details on the bee, including the hooks on its legs, are just incredible. Fantastic camera and lens.

I love the threatening nature of this photo. The flowers appear like open-mouthed creatures waiting to snap up any unsuspecting insect. The top right flower looks almost like a cat's head which the bee's back leg is caressing.

If you click on the picture, it pops up in a larger version :)

Nice shot!

Yes, I know but thanks anyway :D

I was referring to the original at something like 2480x1900 which gives great detail at 200%. I'll try to upload a detailed extract tomorrow.

Can't say enough about what a great camera this is.

Maybe upload to Flickr? Full resolution.
Even though I try to optimize my pictures for upload, they loose some details and color, just a little. Well havent tried full res at Flickr yet.

I score it somewhere around a 8 or 9 mainly because of the lighting, composition, and technical factors being not exactly the best. It is still a nice picture though with many good qualities.

I am posting this ONLY to see if I can get more detail to show up not to say this is what you should do with it...
