A little fill flash or reflector would help you tremendously.

Shooting youngsters that size is real enjoyable...because one is concentrating on them very deliberately you really see how inquisitive and curious they usually are about everything...youngsters really do need to go lay down in the grass sometimes...it is healthy for everyone I think.

Your profile says image editing is ok...

This is edited in View NX.
Highlight protection turned to maximum to stop the Sun widening.
Shadow protection raised to about two thirds along the slider.
Contrast adjusted to balance the other settings.
That's all, no other adjustments done.

At these settings, it's like having a fill in flash at all dark areas of a photo.
This works MUCH better on a raw file than it does on a jpeg.

Nice photos but just a tad cold (too cyan and blue). Pictures made in the shade do have to be warmed up in post processing. But, for the picture where the kid is laying down, I think black and white with a little sepia would make it even better. Here's my take:

You can change your image to sepia in your camera, post process.

I see you have changed your profile to not allow editing yet you liked mine and Marcels posts.
You learn a lot if you allow editing, anyone altering your images does it for your benefit, not ours.
Your choice mate but I'm still learning so I'm happy for anyone to alter my images in a way that helps me learn.
