Potential New Logo/Watermark Base

So, since my 8-bit oldie is quite notorious with a good few of you here, I figured I'd try and design something new. This, and its awfully hard to work with given what it was and how it was shot, is my next best bet.

Disregard the word placement for now, did it as a test fit.

This, jumping figure (at least how I see it) was from an old lucky picture of me playing with LED lights, so it fits being personal and dear to me. Now, it is even more obnoxious and colorful than my 8-bit thing, so I want to hear what all of you think and how I should try and tweak it to look more presentable.

Well, I'm trying to find something creative (of mine) that could fit as a watermark as well. I've seen some graffiti style marks out there which go outside of normal text style, but I know this one would probably be a little toooo much. Hence I'm asking for any suggestions to either tone it to a watermark level or to just leave it alone.

As a watermark I personally think it should not stand out at all. People aren't buying your watermark, they are buy a photo. So I guess it all depends of what you market is. If you are shooting and selling skateboard competitions then this might work well. If you are shooting weddings then I think the bride would shoot you.

Hahaha, well, if I were to sell anything, it would be a clean copy. So the mark is there for now, to kinda let the public know its my work and so forth.

I'm trying to think of some new idea to make something personal, yet simple enough to use. I like, for example, FayMus' logo.

I've never believed in watermarks to much because I figure if you are using one of my images and making a bunch of money with it or off of it I am going to sue your @ss watermark or not unless you compensate me...I don't care if you use them just don't try to make money off of them or claim them as your own is how I think about my snaps.

To me - all watermarks are ugly! :)

I just have a more personal and artistic logic, so something like a logo that I made myself adds that extra spice to anything else.

The great master "floating world" Japanese wood block print artist Hokusai and all of his contemporaries "signed" their prints with a stamp/seal and often this was incorporated in the design of the print.

Hokusai's The Great Wave just wouldn't be Hokusai if it didn't have the stamp!

It is certainly an eye-catching image, no doubt about it. But my own philosophy when it comes to watermarks is they should be very simple and unobtrusive otherwise the image has to compete with them for the viewer's attention. Just my opinion, but I think this one would be very distracting, most especially on a black and white image, but that's just me.

Hmm, that's definitely been a main concern. Not sure it desaturating it would take away from it much or not.

What's the general rule of thumb on sold shots- do photographers still keep even a small mark or remove it completely?

This is all you will ever see on any of my stuff. It is tiny and in a corner where it does not really interfere with the image and I usually drop the opacity to around 65-70%. I think everyone has the right to sign their work, but when it intrudes into the image or whatever work of art it is, then that is when they have gone a little too far with it and it goes from personalization to narcissism.

Hmmm, perhaps a hand-signed something would be the way to go in this case. Guess I'll put my tablet to some more original kind of use :D

For mine, I simply signed a piece of paper with my signature (a legible version), scanned it and then worked it in PS until I had removed all the background and then saved it with a transparent background. I then inverted the image until the signature was in white instead of black. I have done many versions of a watermark over the years but honestly I like this one the best. Simple and understated, but it still identifies the image as mine.

Just put the logo you designed over someones face, and tell them you'll remove it if they buy your pictures. Should sell more that way... especially wedding pictures. haha.

Once I own FX gear and lights along with a dozen of minions, I will.
