The Old Wall

Cool looking wall and I like the overall composition but there doesn't seem to be a lot of contrast that you would look for in a B&W image. Judging this on the zone system scale you would probably be only 5 or 6 out of 11 tonal grades. You might consider using a red filter to bring out more contrast (assuming you have the software that will allow you to do this). What does the color version of this image look like?

I think I like the color version better than the B&W's.

And I hope you don't mind but I used your B&W image to show you what I meant by a more contrasty image and I tried to get as many zones as I could. I'm not sure I like it any better than your edits or not. In fact, I'm sure I like your color version best.

I used Lightroom and Nik's SilverEfex on your photo. I've not used ViewNX before but I believe it's somewhat limited in its abilities. You might want to download GIMP and give it a try. It's fairly powerful and best of all it's free. GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program

I agree. I tried GIMP for a while but the learning curve is pretty steep. I already had PhotoShop and can sail through it. I need to learn GIMP so I can help a few of my friends with it more.
