I can see where I can improve this shot but wanted to get some feedback. Again please be honest and brutal.

I think the focus is not on the right spot. It should be on the middle of the 1 and 5. Now it seems it's on the bottom of the dices.

DOF looks to be shallow since the back of the top edges are a little out of focus, but without shooting details (aperature, SS, etc) it's hard to tell. Also, it looks like the focus point is on the front face of the dice and with a wide aperature, that will cause the OOF at the back edges. You proably need a smaller aperature to get the DOF right.

Did you use a flash or just a light set up to the left? The shadow would indicate a light source to the left of the dice. Try multiple lights to even the shodows out.

Thanks for your comments. I may try it again with your suggestions. Next time I'll add the extra data.

I used a flashlight to sort of put the dice in a spotlight. I was trying to use it for effect to sort of light up the dice. Maybe another flashlight on the other side will elmninate the shadow.

I like the idea. I like simple stuff like this. The color contrasting against the black is great! I do agree about the focus. and maybe a larger DOF? Maybe thats what you wanted though...

You might try putting the dice on something to raise them up off the background. Perhaps a couple black bottle caps. Some seperation will avoid the fabric showing as not completely black.

Thanks to all. There is a thread on this forum called "Last Letter Game". The letter that was up was E. After thinking about it I came up with the idea of a pair of dice showing the number Eleven. Being a newbie it took me a long time trying to come up with cool way of doing that. By the time I rushed through it I was too late. I figured I would post it here instead.

I am glad it worked out that way because I got such great feedback. You guys rock.
