Low ISO will not have as much noise in the shot and should look sharper, its also a good starting point using flash, f11-16 should give you a lot more leeway with your focus point. Hope this helps.

Hi and welcome back. Great choice of camera proper retro especially with the silver top. I use a D600 FX with 24mp and an old 35-80 which covers a lot of every day things, maybe somthing around this to start with. Have fun.
