I have now got it working - it was the settings I had causing the problem. However, I would be grateful for advice on the best settings. My wife is into bird watching and wildlife and I would like to take photos of that sort of thing.

I have just bought a D7500 which came with a Ultimaxx zoom. Although I can see though the lens I can't take a photo (it's just black). I need to change the 'non cpu lens date' but I can't find that setting. Can anyone help please? Thanks Cliff
