I certainly got off to a very slow start this year. Since I volunteer to take photos of the local high school dramas, they've kept me extremely busy with 5 different shows--one per month for 5 months in a row. Whew! So I finally took a breather this week and went to the fair.

Here is the Dutch Wheel with its programmed light show. The lights run through a 10-minute program. The thing is that I can't tell what type of pattern will emerge until after the photos are taken. All I see are spokes of the ferris wheel covered in colored LED lights that blink, flash, go off, or change colors. And sometimes I wind up with a photo that is pretty much all one color. This one reminds me of a poinsettia.

And here is the Sky Flyer...perhaps some of you might refer to this ride as Swings. I learned my sensor needs a cleaning. :eek-new: All of my Fair photos were shot at ISO 100 in manual. I kept the shutter speed to @ 1-3 seconds and used the aperture to adjust the exposure. That meant some shots were taken at f/20 so hence seeing the spots. Am I worried this D610 is headed in the same direction as my former D600? Nope. Not in the least. It just needs to be cleaned. And I have everything I need to do it. ;) (Edit: the original file looked too pixelated so I uploaded an even larger image).

I have no clue why the second photo still looks pixelated. I removed the original photo and replaced it with one that is 12" on the long side with a resolution of 300 dpi. The original was 1600 pixels on the long side with a resolution of 300 dpi. Not sure if it has to do with how the forum resizes the photos? Oh well....

Great Ferris Wheel shots Hark.

Thank you, Marilynne. :)

These images are EXCELLENT! Thanks for sharing!

Pat in GA

Thanks, Pat. They come to the area once per year which is always 10 days or so before July 4th. Many years ago they used to do a fireworks display but they are no longer allowed to do so. Tonight and tomorrow there will a fireworks display elsewhere that I'm hoping will show up in the background, but I'm not sure how big they will look in relation to the rides. I'm hoping to give it a try. ;)

Nice shots @hark. I like the how you can read "Tornado" through the.....tornado!
Thank you, Steve. Since these are slow motion, there isn't any way to tell for sure how each photo will end up. The entire platform moves upwards and tilts making it impossible to determine how the photo will wind up. :)

great shots Hark
Thanks, Roy! I haven't used manual mode for a long, long time, but it was kind of like getting back on a bicycle after not riding one for years. ;)

Here are a few more from the fair.

Another shot of the Ferris Wheel:

This ride is called Freak Out. Not only does is swing back and forth, the each group of seats rotates while swinging.

This is the Orbiter. Took a while to get this image because a man and woman decided to stand between the ride and my camera. The woman kept turning around to look at me while laughing. Eventually they moved on.

This is Pharaoh's Fury. There is some type of viking head on each end of the ride and it swings back and forth.

And this is another shot of the Sky Flyer.
