What are you drinking?

Terrible to stereotype but you look like a bourbon guy Rancher. Best avatar on the forum by the way.

I have some hard liquor around but most of it was from hunters gifts. Most of the time the strongest thing I drink is my morning coffee.

My avatar...I was accidentally got on the wrong side of the camera.

I don't drink much but do enjoy The One and Only New Castle. When I want a beer that isn't I kind of like Redds Apple Ale.

Unfortunately the "one and only New Castle" is no longer one and only and is brewed all over the world and not just at that famous brewery in the UK. We have big beer to thank for that.

Last night it was a nice trio of drafts at a favorite local haunt:
  • Ommegang Game Of Thrones "Take The Black" Belgian Stout
  • Lefthand Fade To Black No. 5 Dark Rye
  • Sierra Nevada 2013 Celebration Ale

I'm a bit of a craft beer geek. I've been tracking my beers since May 2011 using an app called Untappd, which gives you merit badges for beer consumption, making me a Beer Scout of sorts, I guess. LOL I'm at 810 different beers in the last 2 1/2 years, so it easily explains the 25 pounds in the same period (that doesn't include beers I've had before then). I was working to try and hit 1000 on my 50th birthday next year, but that may be optimistic now. When you hit a certain level it's hard to find things you haven't tried.

Also a big fan of Kentucky's finest. Maker's as an everyday pour and Woodford Reserve on occasions, with Booker's reserved for those days you want to forget.

Been an avid winemaker for about five or six years now.

I'm "Gearing" up to make beer also. I know what I go through to bottle wine, so I'm imagining beer is ten times worse with those tiny little bottles. So I have acquired three ball-lock corny kegs, all the fittings, regulators, gauges, digital thermostat, and hoses. I just need to get a CO2 tank, Faucets, and a freezer, then I'll be in business for some kegging action!

As with wine, the selections are limitless, so I'll be sticking to the kits for a little bit until I get the hang of it. I'm going to do a clone of each of the following to kick it off.

Killians
Fat Tire Amber
Rogue's Dead Guy Ale

Hopefully that'll get me headed in the right direction. :D

Russian River Consecration
Telegraph White Ale
Lost Abbey Ten Commandments and Serpent's Stout (when I can find it)

My pictures always look so much better after a pint. . .

Bottling is not fun, but not horribly bad either. More work though and more uncluttered work space is needed. Wash, sanitize bottles, let them drip on the rack, line them up, fill and cap. It goes best with a helper. Fill the bottle and hand it off to your buddy to cap immediately. By yourself, you end up with many open bottles lined up just waiting for you to make one wrong move with your hose and knock half of them down.

I only keg lately. It suits my drinking style better. I am a light weight as far as drinking. A 6oz glass before dinner is plenty for me to whet my appetite. For me, the only downside to kegging is if you like to give some away. I can fill a growler or even fill some bottles from the keg and cap them, but they should be used the same day.
I picked up some 3 gallon corny kegs and I make 2.5 gallon batches rather than the usual 5 gallon. No kegerator for me, I just keep the kegs in the bottom half of the spare fridge and open the door and use the party tap hoses hanging in there.

My tastes head more towards the dark and less bitter, more malty, like mild stouts and brown ales.

Normally I don't drink it, but at Christmastime it is a must here. It's pure 45 % alcohol. It's not recommended to drink more than 2-3 small shots :drunk:

Pure alcohol has an abv of 100% or 175 Proof.
I have a number of whiskies that are over 60%abv and they are very approachable drinking neat because of the quality of the product. It's cheap s--t no matter what abv/proof that'll make you suffer.

No, "pure" alcohol is 200 proof

My father always got us up at midnight for a shot of ice cold akvavit and toasted pumpernickel with shave onion and goose grease -- I had very weird dreams at Christmas. . .

I have a couple of bottles left of White Tiger rum from my wife's family in Trinidad -- 120 proof and wicked good.
