This may be a stupid question but other than 100mm, what is the big difference between the 55-200 and the 55-300? I see a lot of people selling the 200 to get a 300 and I'm not really sure why.

Thanks for the link, Mike. Still don't understand, read the whole thread and it was all Greek to me! FX DX FOV huh? I'm a total newb, know zilch about this stuff. LOL! Happens to me a lot around here, I don't speak the language so I don't understand people's answers to seemingly simple questions.

My understanding is,the 300 has a later Vibration reduction, the 200 has a better motor system and the front element doesnt rotate, so you can use polarizing filters, there will be other differences but the decision should be on what you would want to do with it.
Maybe the mods could move these posts and start a thread for your questions and members answers.

Oops, sorry! I'm bad about doing that. Changing the topic, that is. Anyway, here's a flower I shot the other day with my 55-200!

This was shot using auto but I've been using auto to get the settings the camera chooses then trying to recreate manually. The settings on this one were f/8, ISO 250, and shutter speed 1/125. This was shot at 55mm.

Here are some berries I was having a hard time getting to focus. This is the best one of the bunch but still not that great.

f5.6, ISO 800, and shutter speed 1/60 using 200mm. Am I giving all that info correct? What else should I try if I were to to back and reshoot these manually?

Ladytonya,

Most who sell a 55-200 and get a 55-300 do so for one reason. They want more range! You end up with an extra 100 mm of zoom which is nice if you are shooting wildlife etc. (or some sports events) That is why I changed, the wildlife. I was trying to shoot ducks etc at a local pond and the extra reach let me get them larger in the frame (less cropping).

There is nothing wrong with the 200 and if you do not need the extra reach, I would keep the 200. It is smaller, lighter and faster!

I hope that helps somewhat...

I find a lot of stuff when I get my paper.

Found these two just waiting for their shot at immortality.
