Smaller flash for Nikon FM2n... Compact, any make!

I have a Nikon FM2n that I want to get a small compact flash for, manual or regular non-TTL auto is fine
I just need to use it for indoor stuff... grandkids that are no more than 15' away. I use a 28mm lens in these situations so, a powerful unit is not needed.

I have been looking at this one because it offers low GN#, tilt, manual, auto, TTL, and is a low profile unit.

I am aware of the SB-27, but this profile suits me better.....

Do know of any other options that are more like the profile in the above images?

Thanks in advance.....

How much, or how little, do you want to spend? There's the Metz Mecablitz 26 AF-1 or the Nikon SB-300.

Both go for $150 or thereabouts.

Dandy little unit, though!

Looking to spend under $100 if I can.... I don't use that much, And I don't have any newer Nikons than an FM2n... I have an F2, but, I can use any flash with that in "A" mode

dahell..for film? makes no sense. unless youre shooting people close up with a fisheye.

non ttl auto...you mean auto thyrister type flashes? hard to find. you might consider a used sb28 or a vivitar 283. both are excellent but I wouldnt wink for a millisecond and get the sb28. has it all.

Too big, I have a Sunpak A5000, only use it if I need a powerful flash. 90% of the time I just need a lower power flash. The one I had the flash tube failed. (Sunpak MG-1).

Yeah I am talking old school automatic where you have a sensor on the flash that detects The Flash bouncing off your subject, before there was TTL.

It seems like a lot of Flash's that looks similar to the one I posted in the first post do not have that feature they're either full manual or full TTL. Typically when I use a flash indoors for family pictures I have a moderately wide-angle lens I shoot at f11 and I want the Flash in one of the auto modes, so that I can use my depth of focus zone on my lens.

Not sure what your comment about using film is about. Maybe you could expand on that.

I like that one, but it only has full TTL or full manual and I very rarely use manual mode. Most of the time it's on some kind of semi automatic mode. Where you set some kind of color code red green or blue, and your ISO on the flash, and your f/stop for your lens to match the color code of the sensor on the flash.

that GN is very low for a flash. get something with more oomp. at f/11 that flash sucks ass. even a gn of gn in a flagship wont be enough to light a wa scene. wa GN is very low usually. not going to work well. use a tripod? bake the image for more light.

I understand what you are saying..... I use flashes of different powers and features. I really liked the small potato masher Sunpak MG-1... But, that took a dump... so I am trying to replace it. Hard to find on eBay in good shape.... I do have the camera cord though, many are sold without it.

And I like my Konica X24 for my FS-1, but, it is a Konica FS-1, FT-1 only dedicated flash. It can used manually, but it has a low GN (24 in meters and 20 with the wide adapter)

I have a more powerful flash... Sunpak A5000, but for a small family function, I shoot between 4'-10', don't need a large top heavy flash....

BTW, I used a 28mm lens, the Sunpak 411 is for a 35mm lens, which is why there is corner darkening...
and is quite powerful... I used it on one it lowest auto settings so I COULD USE f/11
On the longest range setting at ISO 400, f/5.6 to 35'. GN for ISO 100 at 10' is 100, The GN for ISO 400 at 10' is 180 or so

I don't want a flash that is below GN 85 (or 28 in meters) for ISO 100 at 10'. otherwise I can't use f/11 in the Dof range I want to use.

Most smaller OLDER units are in that range, newer ones are in the GN 20-25 in meters range... too weak.

The Olympus 32 may be the one..... it has a native 28mm coverage! and is low profile with bounce head.

Well, I got a Vivitar 2800 that takes 4 AAs, (most this small take 2 AAs). Has a GN# of 80 In feet for ISO 100.

Thanks for the suggestions etc
