Light Meter Apps

Hi guys, does anyone have and good experiences with Light Meter App vs a Tangible Light Meter? How accurate is the phone app vs a real DSLR's built in lightmeter. Pay or Free I don't really mind. I'll be using Pocket Light Meter for now to see how it goes. I can compare DSLR vs LightMeterApp but I don't have a real light meter yet.

A phone app has one thing over a real lightmeter, I'll almost always have my phone on me. The same can't be said about a light meter.

What do you think the app would do that your DSLR meter is not designed to do better?

A "light meter" is most likely an incident meter, to be independent of the subjects reflectance, which is a very good thing for accuracy (however it is metered from the subjects position). It probably can also read flash intensity, which is a good thing.

The meters in cameras (cell phones or DSLR) are reflected meters. At least the DSLR reads the angle corresponding to the lens in use, which is more accurate. And the DSLR meter is a lot more than an afterthought. :)

The same also can't be said about your cam. ;)

PhoneApp made everything slightly darker than what I saw with my eyes. Camera made me shoot at a bright well lit exposure. The difference was consistent though.

And yeah, I probably have no need to replace my in-camera lightmeter. Fun project though.
