In my case I need to hook up a d7000. Besides a pocket wizard is there a different type of cable I can use in place off a flash sync cable?

My strobe has an optical mode... and it fires off either a speedlite or the camera's flash... No cable...

I also have a bucket full of cables if I'm so inclined...

Vello also makes a cable for Nikons that has a hot shoe on one end and 2 of the older flash cable connectors on the other end (ping me if you need a model number) which I can use a 20' cable to connect to 2 strobe(s)...

A cable to sync your flash "in place of" a flash sync cable? Flash sync cables exist, they can connect to your hotshoe. You can even get a flash sync cable that still emits the focus assistance light from the hotshoe, but your question is worded very strangely. Do you want a flash sync cable, or are you wondering if there is something else besides a flash sync cable?

No, I don't have pocket wizards. I was thinking cable only, but the strobes only have a pc sync and my camera does not.

I'm not sure if this setup has a optical mode. I'll have to look.

There are simple accessories that attach to the flash foot, to provide PC connector on flashes without, and also have a 1/4" thread in bottom to mount flash on a light stand.

FlashZebra.com: Flash Hotshoe Adapters

That's what I was thinking. Thanks!

This is what I get for typing the question from my phone :) My camera doesn't have pc connector. The only cable on the strobe setup is pc. I don't have a pocket wizard. FredKingston & WayneF answered my question.

That one mounts in a hot shoe. Which could be used, but the 1/4 inch mounting threads in bottom is a very strong feature on a light stand.

Could you then use the sb-700 (doesn't have pc connector) to trigger the strobes via pc connection or am I thinking about that wrong?

Yes, this Pixel version adds a PC connector to the foot of a SB-700, or other flash without PC. The difference is that it only mounts in another flash shoe, instead of on a 1/4 inch thread. Both versions of mounts exist for light stands, so perhaps it is arbitrary.
