My Road Star with Apes and straight pipes had more miles than chrome. Almost 110K before I had to give up riding. Buddy tried to talk me onto a BMW... but that's about when I went from scoot to walking stick. He has the dual purpose. Those expresso machines must be handy in the back countryPopular with the Harley riders. Gold Wing riders like to outfit as many lights as they possibly can, and BMW riders like myself have redundant espresso machines on board.

Assuming he has the R1200GS? After watching the Long Way Around, I was seriously wanting one myself. I ended up trading my Honda ST1300 for an R1200RT. Same geometry as the GS, but included electric cruise control. I added the latte machine as an aftermarket component.
Always wanted to do the Iron Butt. Just never had time. Road for years and most of it just following the headlight around. I wish I had been involved in photography than, but everything has it's time and place. My RT has seem little travel since 2010, and will likely have the same fate in the spring as yours. I used the RT to ride in long distance, "Iron Butt" rides, and after riding in the 2009 Iron Butt Rally, and then losing a good friend and fellow rider in 2010, I just lost the spark. Add to that getting married and getting a dog, the Jeep would be my better choice for daily use.
I didn't actually do the latte machine, but after three GPS units, 2 XM radios (partially due to GPS dependencies), radar detector, tire pressure monitors (before BMW built that in), FRS radio, CB, and replaced the passenger seat with an aux fuel tank to get me up to 11.5 gallons of fuel. A few sets of lights (fork mounted and under mirror) and it was good to go. The RT already had the AM/FM stereo with CD built in, heated grips, heated seats, cruise, active suspension, power windshield ... the only thing missing was two more wheels.
