Why are some threads copyright protected?

Why is it that some threads on this forum throw up copyright protection windows whenever one wants to view the full-size image?

I've just posted a couple of photos on the "trains" thread and yet it takes 3 attempts to show the photo in full size. If I post my photos at 1024 pixels it's because I want people to see them at this resolution. I don't want someone else deciding that my permission has to be sought to see the full shot. If others want to limit their photos to thumbnail size then that is their right but I don't want them taking decisions on my behalf. Can something be done about this or do I have to open a new thread of my own?

Super Mod
Option under General Settings

Disable download of your photos:
  • No
  • Yes
This option will disable the right click on threads that you start and display a copyright notice. It will not work for individual posts that you make in someone else's thread. Note that there are still ways others can download your photos, despite this feature. This only makes it a bit harder for them to do so.

The forum will automatically resize your pics unless you link them to an off site like Flickr.

There is some bug going on. Sometimes when I post pics it also take a few attempts to get them to open full size.

I don't want someone else deciding that my permission has to be sought to see the full shot.

See Marilynne's response below yours.

In your settings you can activate using the right mouse click. I don't use it cos if people want download the photo there are some ways to do this. When I want to see a photo bigger I do this which works for me great:
Example: I use a photo Pat has posted:

1. Click on the photo you wanna see bigger

1-click.jpg

2. Right mouse click again

2-rightclick.jpg

3. Check the prevent....

4-check.jpg

4. right click again and select view

5-view.jpg

here we go - I can see it bigger

6-big.jpg

It takes just a few second to do this

These are not choices we make when threads are started. Many of these threads were started before all of the changes going on. Don't assume. Copyright and image size options were not available when older threads were started. You are probably experiencing a glitch in the site. I've posted your concerns in the moderators forum, I pray we can meet your needs.

Is it really that serious that we need to bother the All Mighty about it ?

Besides, other than once in a while needing to refresh the page so that my freshly uploaded image would open up in a larger size, I don't see much of a problem.

If you started the thread and you don't have the "Disable download of your photos" set to yes then users will not get the right click dialog. If you see this in a group picture posting thread it is because the original poster has this feature set. There is no way to turn it off for individual pictures in these threads, sorry.

Thank you for your explanation. It is, however, annoying, as those who don't know about right-clicking 3 times will never see the photos at full size. :D
