DF aperture control wheel issue

I was out with the DF today and despite the aperture control wheel on the front of the camera rotating freely, it would not change the aperture in either Aperture or Manual mode.

Has anyone else experienced this and does this mean a trip back to Nikon?

Thanks Moab Man, I have arranged for MPB to collect it tomorrow and get it repaired under the warranty.

Just a shame this has happened as I am really enjoying the camera and the results it produces.

Not using Nikon that long yet, does Nikon not deliver a loaner body while repair is being taken care of?

Whenever I send in anything Leica (body/lens/etc.) they deliver a loaner body, with a contract stating that if I don't ship it back they charge me the full price of whatever they are lending me.

Nope. Maybe for NPS members (Nikon Professional Services), but I don't think CPS provides loaner bodies either. That must be something unique to Leica.

The camera was used in excellent condition so had to get it back to MPB and they will get it repaired - I have not heard of this issue before so hope it is a one off and is returned in full working condition.

In Aperture mode it's the back wheel that controls the aperture. It (front wheel) should control the aperture in Manual mode though. Unless you are using an Ais lens. Some of my manual lenses I can control the aperture with the wheel, others I have to use the aperture ring.

I've set the backwheel to do aperture and front wheel shutter when in 1/3th mode...

Thats because I'm used to working the back wheel for aperture on my Leicas.

But knobs like these can break internally which renders them useless.

It was set up for the front dial to control aperture and rear wheel shutter speed, I am using the 50mm f1.8 G lens so no aperture ring so in "A" and "M" setting the front dial should have controlled aperture - alas not ( it did when I first got the camera).

The camera is now on it's way back to the retailer who have agreed to get it fixed under warranty.

Alas no, it is still with "Fixation" a large camera repair company - I had an email a week ago telling me it should be 10 days so I am expecting it back next week....................I hope it is all fixed and there are no further problems with the camera.

So THAT's where the extra $3-4000 of any of Leicas vs other cameras really comes from! Like BMW or Benz.

Just chased MPB who in turn contacted "Fixation" who are repairing the camera.

Apparently, Fixation are still waiting for Nikon to supply the parts required - I know Nikon parts can be slow to appear as Nikon focus more on selling than supporting post purchase but it does not help their image.

Come on Nikon pull your finger out!

As the camera was a used rather than new purchase, there is no option for a replacement.

Well, as everyone knew a minute ago - Nikon likes to fix everything IN-HOUSE, so even authorized repair centers got cut on part support a while ago....
