Maybe you're thinking of the Nikon Rumors article that stated the D500, along with the D3500 and D5600, won't be replaced (with another DSLR)?
I certainty don't see Nikon discontinuing the D500 any time soon.
Yeah, that's what this means. That said, I was going through the NPS qualifications the other day and was gobsmacked to learn that my D610 and D750 earn more points towards their pro equipment status than the D500, which I have to figure is their only real choice for some Sports given the reach the DX sensor gives you over the D5, which is the only other camera that can match its frame rate.
I fully expect Nikon to have a Z body that will eventually make the D500 a thing of the past, but I love mine enough that I bought a second as there are some wildlife situations where a 300mm is too long and you don't have time to change. $1250 is a nice price, but it's only 17% less than new and you can occasionally find deals that include the grip, so I'd rather go with the full warranty.
