Wireless flash trigger issues

I am using a promaster wireless flash trigger with promaster studio strobes and occasionally when shooting my pictures come up with only about 1inch of actual photo and the rest black. It's as if the shutter is sticking or something. I don't know how to remedy this issue. When I shoot without the hotshoe trigger in place it doesn't happen. I can't find anything on the promaster site or anywhere else about this issue. Is there a setting I am missing? Has anyone else had this issue with their d90?

As dukatum mentions, it sounds like the shutter speed is too fast and the flash is catching the the shutter in mid flight, instead of shutter open / flash / shutter close.

If this is the case, you may need to manual set the shutter speed when using the wireless TX/RX units.

ditto. shutter speed isnt syncing with the flash. try at 1/200 at most, then see of the frame is properly lit. if yes, try 1/250 and check that. but we dont know what camera youre using. most likely 1/200 is your fastest you can use.

also make sure to remove red eye on the camera
