How to do image preview during a timelapse?

Hi all,

I've been using the D810 recently to do quite a lot of timelapse. I'm using an intervelometer and, so far, the only way I've found of previewing the previous exposure on the screen is to pause the timelapse and then press the "play" button to make sure my exposures are as they should be. And then continue to timelapse again.

This isn't ideal for a timelapse as the timing should be exact between each shot, but as I'm pausing it I'm getting some "skipping" in my final films.

This scenario also makes it impossible to adjust exposure during the timelapse. Again, I have to pause the intervelometer timer, preview the images and then adjust.

Help!

I would say do not pause it and honestly if it is set up correctly you do not need to review each image. How I adjust exposure is by looking at the exposure bar in the top screen, then I adjust a setting depending on what exposure I would like. Takes some practice but works.

Here is one I completed this way using a D800E.

I hope that helps.

Can't you view the previews of each shot on the LED screen? I usually turn that off in the menu for battery reasons once I have my exposure set for timelapse, but you could set it to be on.

Also, is there any reason to use an external intervalometer instead of the camera's built-in timelapse function? Are you doing an accelerating timelapse or something?
