orange format logo

After decades as a Canon user, I've switched to Nikon, bought a D7500 and am curious what the odd orange logo, FORMAT, with the right-pointing arrow indicates. Just a curiosity.

Hi there and welcome to Nikonites!
And Nikon, as well.
There should be two buttons with this logo next to it and what you can do is the following:
push both buttons at the same time for some seconds (don't know how long exactly) and you format the memory card(s).
I never use it, though. I always go through the menu (have it on shortcut in the D500) as I want this to be a really deliberate act.

Actually you have to do that action twice to perform the format...

The first long-press of both buttons pulls up the Formatting option and gives you the option to choose which card slot you want to format (assuming the body has two slots). You then have to release both buttons and then long-press both buttons a second time to actually format a card. If you have two card slots, and want to format both cards, you have to do this procedure for each card separately.

Thanks for clarifying that.
As mentioned I never use it.
