What is the best speed light for the D750?
Impossible to say since there really is no single "best" speed light for everyone and for every purpose. What you're asking is an, "It depends question".

That being said, I've been very happy with the Godox V860II-N's I have. If money were no object I'd probably own a pair of Metz 64 AF-1's.

The Nikon SB-5000 is nice, but it's a $600 flash and I've never found it necessary to spend that kind of money on a flash.

Under what types of conditions will it be used? For example...if you are shooting outdoors in bright sunlight, you should consider a more powerful flash. Will it be used in softboxes or other types of light modifiers? Do you want HSS - a feature that will allow outdoor flash with higher than normal shutter sync speeds.

The Godox V860II that Horoscope Fish mentioned is great. Down the road, you can add a Godox trigger if you are looking to use the flash off camera. Both Godox and Yongnuo make good flashes that are less expensive than the Nikon brand flashes.

I love the Yongnuo YN685N on my D750 and have had no problem with the unit. At a price of just over $100 they are an excellent buy. I often use mine in headshots as a hair or rim light along with a studio strobe and have at times used it as a main light in a umbrella softbox with good results. YN685N

I bought an SB-800 back when I had my D70 (I must have received a big tax return that year!). It functions perfectly with all functions with the D750. It has a cumbersome menu system and isn't one of my favorite Nikon products...

It is very powerful and does anything you could want a speedlight to do.

Take it easy,
Bob

I have two Yongnuo 568EX, paired with their wireless transmitters and really enjoy using them. I have used these with umbrellas and a softbox and had an issue with them. I would recommend checking them out if you are looking a good, budget friendly solution.

I have included a link to their US site, and have heard nothing but good things from the person who runs it.

Godox has a couple that are quite good and might be a small step up from Yongnuo flashes.

The Godox VING V860IIN that Horoscope Fish mentioned is one. It comes with a rechargeable battery. Here is a link to the flash with a trigger (although it's also available without the trigger):

And the other is the Godox TT685N Thinklite TTL Flash:
