D750 reliability!

Dear Nikonites,

I've been watching prices and information about Nikon D750 for a long time, I'm really interested about buying one for me. During thanksgiving's Black Friday, I notice hundreds of "refurbished by Nikon" cameras been offered in different shops and eBay as well, something pop up on my mind, why hundreds and hundreds D750 are being offered refurbished, is this camera having lots or common problems to be fixed by Nikon regularly? If you see, there are almost zero D610 offered on this condition. I'm concerned because I don't have the privilege to live in US, and for me would be very costly to repair one D750 on my own expenses, while living abroad. I have a Nikon "F" series collection, some have 40 years old and still running impeccable! Do you guys think that is very likely to have even small glitches on D750 nowadays? I can't afford to lose!

Happy new year for everyone!

I bought a refurbished D7100 that only had 39 shutter actuations on it. If people purchase a Nikon and put shutter actuations on it but decide not to keep it, they tend to be sent back to Nikon to be checked out. Nikon will ensure they are working properly and fix anything that might need to be repaired then allow distributors to sell them as refurbished. A lot of refurbished bodies are due to people simply deciding not to keep the camera for whatever reason--could be financial or something else.

Early on the D750 was recalled which Nikon fixed. Could be due to that, too, but it shouldn't affect the reliability of the body.

Welcome to the forum, @Percival. What Hark said ^^^
I also bought a D7100 refurb and it had less than 20 on the shutter count. Knocking on wood, I haven't had any problems since I purchased it.

Refurbs occur for a variety of reasons, most of which have nothing to do with repairs. Most commonly a "refurb" is something that was purchased, opened, and returned to the store (i.e. a weekend "rental" by a curious and unscrupulous shopper taking advantage of a liberal return policy). It could also could have been a store's floor model, or a show or demo camera. Nikon goes over them and releases them for sale through dealers a couple times a year which is why you see them n bunches. A refurb is a great way to get a body on the cheap, and extended warranties are generally available thru dealer or even your credit card company.

I just checked eBay website and found that number of listings for D750 and D610 are about the same (117 vs. 94) including new, used and refurbished. My 2-yr old D750 was serviced once at the second recall but it never has any problem as far as I know.

I have bought refurbished Nikons before and had zero problems with them. I did buy my D750 new and it was recalled. I had never had any problems with it but did send it back for repair. I have never enjoyed any camera I have owned anymore than I do my D750.

I bought my D7200 was a refurbished model. It had less than 50 clicks on the shutter when I bought it. I have over 20,000 now. Very happy with it. A lot of folks here have the 750 and other than the early recalls I have heard no complaints. I would love to be able to afford one myself.
