RAW files uploading problem?

Hello! I'm having trouble with my file sizes. I upgraded to the D750 from the D7200.
I have had a heck of a time getting all the settings right. I'm shooting in RAW and when I process photos in LR my photos are 5-6mp ?

I brought it to a local camera store and they reset all image size settings and it looked like it was ok again, but when I processed the shots, they were still 5-6mp.
Also when I did a PS Edit, the file went from 5-6mp to 12? I'm not sure if its because there's a layer and now its doubled it's photosize or they're compressed? How do they become uncompressed?

I'm completely confused.

Thanks for any help or advise you may have!

Are you confusing mp (mega pixels) with mb (mega bytes)? My d7200 images are 6000x4000 pixels, 24mp. I get this from the dimensions listed on the LR library screen on the righthand panel. My output jpg file size varies greatly with quality selected. It goes from way under 1mb to over 13mb file size for the exported jpg.

what kind of images are you taking? do realize that files that only contain so much information in it (black backgrounds to subject) will only provide so much data.

I suspect this has to do with your LR "Export" settings. LR does not export raw files and you can specify what size or limitations you want to have your exported files. The original files stay in the folder where you put them when you import them.

Try to export a file in TIFF format and you'll see the file size jump big time.

Hope this helps.

Can u upload a screenshot of LR with the RAW file showing.
Have LR show the MP of the image on the top left corner .
Im thinking you're confusing MP with MB.

Have you checked the RAW file size? Use explorer if in windows. The RAW file sizes should be around 22MB.

Next download and install View NX and check the RAW files there. If all is fine then it is an LR setting problem.

Thanks everyone for the input! I am likely getting the terminology confused. =X
I will try to check the size of the RAW images later.
LR converted them to a DNG file that is 2624 x 3674 when I hit 'I', and when I export from LR with no size restrictions the JPG file size is 5.4MB.
I cannot find a way to export them as a larger file. So is this a LR problem or a camera problem?

Lr and Ps are non-destructive image editors so you can't export a raw file as a raw file, you need to choose a file format to export the raw file TO. This preserves the raw file in its orignal state.

If you export to JPG the raw file is going to be compressed; that's just a "feature" of the JPG file format.

If you want a larger, higher resolution file you'll have to export to some other format such as TIFF or PNG.

This is looks like the problem. Your image should be around 4000 x 6000.
Are you using a dx lens which would automatically put your camera in 1.2x crop mode? Try an fx lens.

Also a side note: do you have a specific need for dng? If not, just select 'copy' when you import. 'Copy and as dng' will copy the nef file and create a dng next to it. The nef wont be shown in LR, but still taking up a lot of storage space.
