Need a little HDR help

OK, I'm sure I'm just missing something, but for some reason it's got me baffled.... When I go to set the HDR to "on", it is not highlighted. In other words, that function isn't available. I'm sure some other setting is causing this, but I can't seem to find the problem. I'm set to Shutter Priority and everything else is pretty much disabled. Please tell me what stupid thing I have set!!

You know, I just discovered that was the problem. I have the camera set to RAW. I know the feature doesn't work with RAW, so I was just assuming it would default to jpeg Fine. It doesn't. Anyway, it's good to know what the problem was. It was driving me crazy! Thanks!

Another related question... how good is HDR with hand-held shots?

I don't have the D750, but I would suspect that just like on the 7100, in camera HDR only works with jpegs as @Skwaz pointed out.
There are a few other settings that you may have to change as well. Do a search on youtube for D750 in camera HDR and you should find an answer to your question.

It's not convenient to have to change from RAW to JPG in order to shoot HDR, and change back after that. Wonder why it's not possible to shoot RAW on the first card and HDR on the second card?
Here's an example of my HDR shot:
