Geotagging on D7200

Hello all... I’m a new follower of this group. I have a few Nikons... an AW130 and a D7200. I also have an older D90 that I no longer use. My AW130 geotags my photos automatically which I love. However the D7200 does not. I was considering upgrading to the D7500 because I read somewhere that it geotags. But Nikon tech support says it does not. They say I would have to buy a GP-1 or 1A unit for it to do so. Well, I might as well keep my 7200 if that’s the case. Does anyone have experience with the GP-1 or 1A? And does any Nikon DSLR geotag out of the box like my AW130? Thanks again!

There are no Nikon DSLR's that will geotag like your AW130.

Nikon discontinued both the GP-1 and the GP-1A, though you might find one for sale somewhere.

The D7500 is supposed to be able to use the SnapBridge cellphone app to geotag, and since SnapBridge is free, it might be worth trying. I find SnapBridge pretty much worthless, personally, but don't let that discourage you from trying it out for yourself. There are also a lot of other cell-phone based apps that might work for you, such as the aptly named GeoTagPhotos.

Hardware based solutions I can suggest would be either the Micnova GPS-N Plus or the Solmeta Geotagger N3.

@ride4now Things have changed a bit with Snap Bridge. The D7200 does not have it. I am not sure if the D7500 has it our not. I do know that the Z6 and D850 do, and it is much better than any of the previous communication programs that Nikon developed. The most recent releases are much better. You can actually Geo-tag your photos now using Snap Bridge via the Bluetooth connection to your phone using Snap Bridge.

Here is a video I found that explains it pretty well. You do have to pay attention when he talks about the menu under "Auto Link". He goes pretty quick through that and I missed it the first time... and I knew what he was talking about. :)

@ride4now, Here is an example of how Snap Bridge Geo-tags photos using the cell phone. I have the app running in the back ground on the phone and on the camera linked using only the Bluetooth. The Wi-Fi is inactive. The Phone shares the GPS data from the phone GPS, (I have mine on medium), and it also syncs the time and date with the phone. The other benefit is that you do get 2 meg JPEG files of every photo if you want to share them. The GPS data is in the Right column near the bottom.
