F-- blinking

Hi - Just bought a 7100 and inserted the SD card into the 1st slot and formatted it from the menu option. But I get a F-- blinking sign instead of a FOR. And I am not able to press the "click" button. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the response. I am using a lens that was bundled with the camera. The Nikon NIKKOR LENS AF- DX 18-140. should that restrict me to use only the A or M modes?

Also on page 332 of the manual, it suggests if it is a CPU lens to try taking it off and putting it back on. I assume you mean it's an AF-S DX 18-140mm, which is a cpu lens.
Maybe the contacts need to be cleaned too.

We had a new guy here not long ago who was pressing and holding the lens release button while he was installing the lens. That was allowing the lens to over tighten a tiny bit and not make proper contact. So that is something to look for. Just install the lens without pressing the button and make sure it clicks into place.

Not sure if you solved this but appears your lens is in the locked position. You may notice the dot on top of the lense set to L. Press the round button on the left side of the lense and turn to unlock and the blinking f-- should go away.

Huh? What lenses have dots that set to "L"?

Removing the lens solves the problem?

My camera kit came with the af-s nikor 18-55 lenses. For storage the lens has a lock option which retracts the optics inside itself. The larger lenses which came with the camera does not have this, but the smaller lens does. So the dial that adjusts the lenses mm setting has an L locked position. If locked it will give that error.

Here is a view of the lenses.

The 18-140 does not have that on it. Chances are the lens is not seated in the proper place. Take the lens off and then put it back on till it clicks.

99.99999% of Nikkor lenses do not have that.
