How to make a voice memo for each picture with D7000

Dear forum friends, I am a researcher in a field trip in the Amazon jungle for registering several birds and other living beings.
I got the D7000 from an institution and have extra no time to read its manual. I need to know how to take pictures and record some facts that will allow me to organize them in a future task. Quickly reading the manual did not provide this information.
Could you please help me out on how to proceed in this function, if it is available in this model?
Thanks a lot !
Leonardo

Hi, and welcome to the forum! It sounds like you have a fun trip ahead of you!

The D7000 doesn't have this function - I don't know of a DSLR that does to be honest, unless something in the professional broadcast world offers it... What I would do as a kind of work around, is sync the clock on a mobile phone and the camera as close as possible, and while you shoot photos, the Dictaphone app of the phone records the commentary... Then when back home, just put the respective tracks together based on their time. You could also use the GPS of the phone to record a GPX track, and geotag the data too.

Alternatively, record video and break the movie file down into still frames and use software to strip out the audio?

My first DSLR was a D100 and it had that feature. You could annotate any photo with voice notes. Cool feature. Too bad it's not offered on modern day bodies.

Apparently the Nikon D2/D3/D4 bodies has the ability to record a voice memo of up to sixty seconds in length for each image.

I have always wanted the ability to make a voice memo for photos. I shoot a very large building and I would love to note what building/floor/room I am in to add to the photos.

The easy way that springs to mind is a note book, write down any points after each subject and take a picture of the page,it would then be in order when you download.

Very simple process.
Use your phone or another voice recorder.
After you take a picture, view it and voice record the picture number and the notes you want for it.
Always done it this way with no problems.
