Hello Nikonites,
Has anyone had this problem.
I get an ERR message on my top LCD screen.
The fist time I returned it to Nikon they didn't address the problem the simply cleaned it and returned it to me.(Not Impressed)
the second time they apparently fixed it.
Not the case.I have the message again.
All this has happened within 6 weeks. And has screwed up 2 of my most important shoots of the summer.

The camera will not take a picture.
NOTE it still has 10 months warranty.
Could an aftermarket grip cause this error.

Thanks,
Chris

Here is a good article on the ERR message and how to fix it:

How to fix blinking "Err" error on new Nikon DSLR cameras

"All this has happened within 6 weeks. And has screwed up 2 of my most important shoots of the summer."

I am going to assume from the above statement, that you are doing paid work? Either way, you really should invest in a second body. That way, you can still take the photos you need. I very rarely go out with just one camera. You never know when technology will decide to grab it's ankles.

The "err" message indicates the camera body is not properly communicating with the lens. Do you have another lens for this camera and if so does this error occur with all of them or just one in particular or what? The most common solution to this problem is to clean the electrical contacts on the camera body, and the lens itself, in hopes of restoring proper communication between the two. If this does not work and you have no other lens to try, I'd go to a brick and mortar camera shop and ask if you could try one of their lenses on your D7000 body to see if the error presents itself. If it does not show up, that would indicate you have a bad lens.

Not had the problem, but poking around the internet it points to all sorts of issues, from a malfunctioning shutter to bad/low batteries. Given the latter, I suspect an aftermarket grip could definitely cause it if it does not seat correctly or provide sufficient juice. Are you getting it without the grip? If so, then that's not (entirely) your problem. If not, leave it off and buy a Nikon grip if you need it.

The ERR message normally shows up when people use a D type lens and the aperture is not set at the lowest aperture (highest number which are normally colored in orange). Set the aperture to that number and try again.

Could you supply a little bit more info: Which lens was used? Did the problem occur with other lenses? Did you clean the contacts between the lens and the camera body?

Hi
Thanks for the reponses.
Just to answer a couple questions.
I do not get paid for shooting but was asked to do a couplefunctions.the outcome could have resulted in some paying business though.
The lens that it happened with is my 18-200 VRII.
I do have an older Vivitar lens but have not used it lately.
Once the “ERR” is flashing it happens with all my lens lensesboth DX and AFD and will not go away even without the grip.
Yes I have cleaned the contacts on both the lens and thebody.
As far as the aperture setting on the lerns I have triedthat and have had no success.
off to Nikon it goes.....again.
:(

That is a shame. I hope Nikon can resolve the issue for you.

This is why you need to invest in a second body. If you plan on getting into paid work, you really need that second camera.

Do you not have a Nikon-authorized repair shop that's local?

The idea of putting my kit in the infinitely IN-capable hands of the United States Post Office makes me queasy. Maybe things are different in the GWN...

Nearest service center is in Mississauga, Ontario, about a 2 hour drive away for them. That's a four hour round trip (if traffic is good). A good part of your day would be gone.
