D610 Stopped Focusing the Tamron 70-200mm

Hi. I'm Christian Miranda and I'm new to the forum.

I've been using my Nikon D610 for a while now and it worked just fine. Out of nothing, I turned on my camera one day for a photoshoot and the camera stopped focusing my Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 saying a weird message in the viewfinder: "[r46]".

The problem is: the camera autofocuses all my lenses perfectly, but doesn't want to autofocus my Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 anymore. It doesn't make any sound, it just says that weird code [r46].

PLEASE HELP!

r46 in the viewfinder means you can take 46 shots before the buffer fills up. It has nothing to do with autofocus.

Since 3rd-party lens manufacturers have to reverse-engineer their lenses, sometimes they don't always play well with the camera. Try turning the camera off, unmount the lens, remount it and turn the camera back on. Many times, that will solve the issue.

Welcome to the site.

Have you tried the lens on another camera? Since other lenses work it would seem to be lens related. Try cleaning the lens contacts.

I just tried the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 on my Nikon D7000 and it didn't autofocus either (I used to have the lens with my Nikon D7000 and it worked perfectly).

Based on that ... assuming the lens hasn't been switching to manual focus mode, it sounds like something in the lens itself has died. Is it still under warranty?

Did we ever figure out the problem with the lens communicating with the camera body? When I originally purchased my Tamron 70-200 I only had my Nikon D3200 and it autofocused just fine and still does. I now have a D610 and my 70-200 won't autofocus. You can hear the motor running and trying but never focuses. It will manual focus just fine. I switched it back to the D3200 and it still works on there. I took it into sell and the guy in the shop used a D200 and D500 and it wouldn't autofocus. Tried it on the 3200 after that and it still communicated with it just fine. I'm stumped! This lens only works with 1 body?

No activity from the OP since this thread was created inn December 2015 so I would guess they have moved on. There have been a rash of new posters of late with strange problems who post and you never hear from them again.

Welcome aboard. Enjoy the ride.
We look forward to seeing more posts and samples of your work.

You may need to send the lens into Tamron for a firmware update (this also applies to the OP, but they are long gone).

Welcome to the forum, agree that it could need a firmware update from Tamron.

It sounds like your lens needs to be serviced by Tamron. I've been using the 70-200 with the D7100/D610/D810/D500 without problems. The fact that the D3200 is able to autofocus the lens before and after testing it on other bodies would imply that the lens settings aren't being changed (from M/A to M AF), and so something else is wrong with the lens.

Oh, and howdy ... welcome to Nikonites!!!
