That's ok. I was pricing a 34,000 dollar Hasselblad just yesterday. I was going to order one, but my 18-55 wont fit on it.:sorrow:

I have used Hasselblads for a very long time and find them to be the finest film cameras ever made, bar none. but spending the same amount of money on a camera that you can on a brand new car, for me at least, is just the height of insanity.

WOW! I wonder if Nikon will keep the price down a little now that they released the D750.

Why, oh why did I have to read this thread?!! It would be REALLY nice to have a full-frame back-up camera, and the D610 is enough for me (although a D750 would certainly be nice as well).

Do you realize how much money you would have to make off of every photograph you take and sell to break even on that camera? No thanks. No camera is worth that much!

For some photographers who get between 3 to 5 Ks a day for shooting, this is not a problem.

You mean for the very, very, few that make that much......and if equipment isn't what makes the photographer, it's what's between the ears....then you don't need to spend that much money. But I guess with savy accountants, you could depreciate the camera over a few years and that would help. Doesn't excuse the fact that it's what's between your ears that counts.

Hello everyone, I'm new here, so don't mind me if I make a mistake or something! I just joined Nikonites today to do some research on the D610 and get into the community a bit. :D

I recently sold my entire Canon DSLR set / lenses and all gear, and am prepping for Black Friday for potential bargains on a Nikon D610 along with a handful of various gear / lenses. In all of my shopping, I stumbled across something that a lot of folks didn't know. Over at BHPhotoVideo, the Nikon D610 is $1696 (like most places), BUT, also happens to include $82 worth of extras.

These extras are as follows...

  • Sandisk 16GB Ultra UHS-I SDHC Class 10 memory Card
  • Watson EN-EL15 Lithium-Ion Battery (7.0V, 1800mAh)
  • Rugged Commando 36 DSLR Shoulder Bag

So you end up with the memory card, carrying case, and spare battery all for the price of a normal body. That seems like a pretty great deal to me, since I was originally shopping for those as well. By pure chance, the camera bag they are including is the one bag I had been considering to start with. The only thing is, that this 'bundle' offer ends on November 15th. After that I'm not sure what's going to change.

Hopefully the D610 will see a decent discount like it did last year on Black Friday when it saw an additional $200 off.

I believe that is the same package I got when I bought my D610 from B&H last November; however, the price now is several hundred dollars less! ;) Good luck with getting the body at a good price as they don't give an expiration date for the promotion. Can't give you a review on the bag as I've never used mine--too small for my needs but did seem to be sturdy. :)

Welcome to Nikonites, Mr. Bumbles. :D

One of my probably never to be realized dreams is to go to a Saturday/Sunday garage sale and find a 'blad' just waiting to be taken, for $50 or so.

Keep dreaming because either they don't exist, or that $50 Hassy is just a 3 pound, non-functional pretty paper weight! The huge popularity of digital has made all film equipment very affordable, one of the best aspects of it!

Here is a great Hassy "starter kit". Of course if you have never done darkroom work, you are looking at a pretty big outlay to process and print the film and scanners which will scan that size film are not cheap either!

Thanks for the welcome Hark! Can't wait to get settled in with a new Nikon! I started my photo life when I was 16 on a Pentax Asahi K1000 with an SMC Pentax-M 50 f/1.4.
I absolutely loved that camera. 6 years later, one of my room-mates had a friend come visit, and his friend ran off with my camera gear. Not good. Camera + 7 lenses, gone.

My next camera was a gift from someone who wanted to foster my artistic talents. A Nikon F2A Photomic with the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 and an Nikkor 80-200 f/4.
That camera got (and some self taught skills) won me an art scholarship that paid for part of my college. I ended up working in the college dark room (loved the work there) teaching students how to develop negatives and prints. After that I was offered a job working for the graphics department of the local newspaper. At which point my apartment got robbed, and I lost over $6,000 worth of items, including my entire camera set.

I went without a camera for a little while, then returned to college, and got a student discount on a Canon 40D which I used until last week. Now I'm itchin' to get my paws back on a Nikon, not to mention a full frame Nikon at that. *grrr* I can't wait! Anyway.. I do tend to run on a bit! *chuckle*
