This was taken handheld without any support of any kind with my D600, Nikon 70-200VR lens with my Nikon 20E III 2X converter. The distance is 35ft and the piece with the writing on it is one of the covers off of a car battery. Other than to re-size and crop these are right out of my camera. 200mm times 2X converter is equivalent to 400mm. I only took one shot and it would have probably been a lot better using a tripod but I still think it came out pretty well. You can tell the little cap was leaning back a little.

Not sure if you're asking about something or trying to say how good you feel the photo is. It is'nt really that sharp. Not sure what you're focusing on. Judging by the shadows, you took this around noon so the shutter speed would have been really fast in the sun which would have allowed you to shoot handheld. What is it you're trying to express?

Considering it was that close with very small DOF, handheld, and the little cap was leaning back, loosing the sharpness on the lower letters I thought it came out pretty good.

Yes not bad. But you loose some DOF using the converter. So you're actually shooting at 5.6 when without the converter you would have been at 2.8. When shooting that far it's sometimes hard to get you're focus dead on. Is the lense the first or second version?

Thanks for sharing the sample shot. How is the AF when it comes to moving objects? Does it hunt?

Normally, most get the optimum sharpness when they stop down a bit or two.

The lens is the VR 1 version. As far as the lens loosing DOF it doesn't but it does loose two F stops of light. F 5.6 gives you more DOF than you will get by using F 2.8.

I love using my 70-200mm VRII with the 2.0 III it focuses okay but no where near the speed of the lens on its own which I expected that anyway. As far as image quality I think it is just fine I will shoot a few sample shots soon because I have to go shoot the bike races at the track this weekend and I plan on using this combo. Thanks

By the way nice shot and the letters are clear on the cover up top and the uncropped image is clear in my opinion....so yeah good test shot!
