Nikon D5300 compatibility with Sigma Lens?

I've recently bought Sigma 18-200mm 1:3.5-6.3 DC OS for my Nikon and noticed that the auto-focus function is not working as well images not coming into focus as seen in the viewfinder.
I bought the sigma USB dock to update the firmware, and the program says the lens is on Version 1.0 without any further updates. Auto-focus and all is still an issue. This was one of the solutions I found online. Another was to downgrade my camera's firmware from 1.01 to 1.00. Could that be a possible solution?
Any help or thoughts on these issues? Thank you

Welcome to the forum, afraid you cant downgrade firmware, not sure how you mean AF not working is it just not producing sharp images or not working at all.

To my knowledge, when the switch is set to AF mode on the lens itself, the focus dial should be turning on its own as you're about to take a picture and focus the image. If I set AF mode on the lens itself, it doesn't do that, so the image won't come out automatically focused. Also, putting the switch to MF will still give me blurry images compared to the sharp images that I see on the viewfinder.

thank you!

Howdy and welcome to Nikonites!!!

I'm not familiar with Sigma's 18-200mm, but your explanation of what you'd expect to occur for AF vs MF does sound correct. A sample image would help to see if there is anything exposure related that could be causing the blur besides just the focus system, since you see things clearly in the viewfinder before tripping the shutter.
