Hi, Just got myself a d5100. Ive got a couple of issues with it ...
Firstly ive given the battery a full charge, taken 104 pics used for a total of 17 minutes and the battery is dying.

Secondly, i seem to have a serious problem going on with the reds. When taking general pictures, my reds are coming out over saturated. My curtains for example are a deep dark red, they show up as bright almost blood like (not very nice)

Also when trying to use the selective colour mode, the reds are picking up lovely as in full coverage, still the nasty colouring. But so too is any exposed skin we may have. Hands, arms and faces etc... leaving us looking like we have patchy rashes.

Ive done lots of reading on this camera, and all reviews i find give the camera a fantastic read up. Am i doing something wrong, or have i got myself a faulty camera?

All help much appreciated x

I also have a D5100 and do not have the issues you are talking about. Can you post a couple pics and lets figure out on the reds if it a settings issue or something else. My battery lasts for about 600+ images when I shoot capturing in the mode that saves both large JPEG and RAW files so not sure on that one...

As far as the red color issues go, maybe by chance you've changed a setting that you're not aware of. Considering re-setting everything back to the original factory settings and see if this problem continues. Your battery symptoms sound just like a battery about to go bad. You may want to contact your place of purchase and inform them you have a bad battery.

Are you using the "Built in Flash"? On my camera it really eats the battery.
The colors sound like the JPG processing inside the camera. I'd try shooting RAW + JPG and see if the Raw file has the color problem.

Thank you for the reply's. I will try and upload the pictures again. Seems i need to re-size them first as the last lot failed x

Use the menu to reset everything back to factory default.
Take a picture of your curtains with and without the flash.

If you're still having issues, then I'd take it straight back to the retailer.
A new battery definitely shouldn't be lasting only 100 or so pictures. Hate to say it, but have you been sold a display model, used, returned one?

Using Live View also consumes a significantly greater amount of battery power than using the viewfinder. I agree with the others on battery life -- I can shoot hundreds of photos before I even think about its state of charge. It seems to go forever. Too, your battery's longevity may improve as it works through several cycles of use.
