    Force Flash

    Hi Guys

Just got myself a new D5100 a few days ago and I'm quite new at photography.
My question is how can I force the in built Flash on the camera?

I think that if you press the flash button to make the flash pop up it will then flash automatically. I don't have that model but think that's how it's done with the D-90

Marcel is correct. If you press the flash button on the left side(above the function button) it will automatically fire. Definitely read the manual under the flash options, there are a handful of different settings for it depending on how/what you're shooting.

If you have the camera in the automatic mode, the flash will work only when the camera wants it to. Put the mode dial in any other, Apt or Shutter, then the flash will work anytime you have it up.

    Hi Guys

Ok as I am totally new to this I was using it on Auto Mode, but as Mark said, Flash will go off on any other mode when popped up.

    Thanks for the tip
