I notice a lot of folks asking about a good wide-angle lens for the DX format. I use a Tokina 12-24 that seldom leaves its mount on my D5100. I believe it is an excellent lens. I will be posting various photos in this thread specifically taken with that combo. More to come.

I also have this lens and although I don't use it as much since I got my Nikon 16-85mm I like it a lot.
Plan on taking a trip out west and imagine I'll be using it a lot.

I use my 16-35 on my D800 pretty regularly, but for lightweight carrying I use the 5100 12-24 set up. For me, the weight difference is quite noticeable. For my hobby, the D800/various is a tripod affair. The D5100 is for handheld and hiking.

I had a D5000 that I used for hiking but gave it to my bother for xmas. I took the D7000 hiking back in the fall and there is a definite weight difference.

For me, the ideal set would be the D5300 and the D800. But, I'll just have to make due with my D5100 (which is a very good camera and I'm happy with what it does).

I could never afford the D800 let alone the lenses.

I loved my D5000, had it for a couple of years and hiked with it a lot. Also took it on a 1-1/2 month cross country trip.
