Hi All
I am going to a wedding party on Saturday night which is in a steak house. no flashing lights etc just dinner and good company. anyway, I haven't got speedlight, so am just taking my D5100 with pop up flash :(. Can you recommend some good settings where I wont have to use the harsh flash please?
thank you.

Ahh my friend you have a 50mm 1.8G  The world is yours , if the place is not pitch black I think with upping the ISO a bit (all depends on light) you could get some fine photos ! Did I mention that I love the 50mm f/1.8G ?

Try ISO 800 up to 1600. 1/60 to 1/80 shutter speed. Manual mode of course. Start practicing in your house and adjust as necessary.

I have the 50mm F1.8! so what do you think I should up the ISO to? it will be subdued lighting but certainly not dark.
thanks

If you absolutely must use your pop-up flash wrap a piece of tissue paper (clear Scotch tape to secure it) over the flash lens to soften and diffuse the light so it is not so harsh.

You do have an instant pre/review on this thing, so why not just go and take a few test snaps, then adjust as needed? That and shoot in RAW to iron out any kinks later.
