Hey guys, just wanted a quick recommendation on a wide lens. Im going to start shooting weddings and I want a wide lens but I want something that is good in low light situations. I was looking at the Nikon 12-24mm f2.8, but not only is it expensive but i am not sure if it will even fit with a DX camera. Does anyone know? Any recommendations will help. Thank you.

The 12-24mm should both fit and work on your camera just fine. As for its quality, I'll have to defer to others since I've never used a DX ultra wide.

You would need to be very careful shooting with a wide angle at a wedding. You can distort people pretty quick. I am not sure if I would ever use anything wider than the 18mm like the 18-55 kit lens is. Maybe just a faster version of it.

Hi,

I have the Tokina 11-16mm F2.8 AT-X Pro DX and have had a few snaps at a wedding with it on my D7000 - Although i'd rather have used the nikon 35mm but as I wasn't the wedding photographer I didn't want to get in his way at all. - Haha! even though he spoke badly of Nikon.. Canon scumbag
So shot with the Wide angle - Distortion was not a problem as long as the subject was not too close! also I did try to make sure the subject was central to allow cropping off the edges a bit.

This was the first time i've used this lens and not had it long, I am impressed with it, definitley a useful lens for me.

Even for DX I would suggest 14-24mm. The reason is there is very little distortion with this lens on full frame. Even then the distortion is only between 14-18mm. On a DX camera there will be almost none. This lens is effectively a 20-36mm 2.8. Great for a DX body IMO.

I was looking at both the 14-24mm 2.8 and the 14-24mm f4 because that is a DX lens. Anyone have experience with the second lens?
