Hi all,

I'm quite new to Nikon camera's and have recently bought a Nikon D5100. I have read through the manual and understand everything.

I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions such as particular settings for my sisters engagement party. The room will not be dark like a party and not brightly lit up, but there will be some light.

If anyone could help me I would really appreciate it.

Thankyou :)

Find a place that will approximate the lighting and practice. See how the camera is going to respond. You will want an external flash with some punch. A few others around here can make some specific recommendations.

I'll recommend getting a flash slave trigger, in addition to that extra external flash. Use it with the camera's built-in flash to add some extra dimension to your flash photography, and to reduce the harshness of the on-camera flash.

What's a Troll Thread?

In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtrl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[SUP][1][/SUP] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[SUP][2][/SUP] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[SUP][3][/SUP] The noun troll may also refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."

You guys realise this is a troll thread right?

We have many different skill levels here in the forum. Someone very new to photography may not realize that this question is not really answerable in the way he asked it. He just needs help. The answer that one person gave him was to just put it in Auto was probably the best answer he got. That would match his skill level and get him the photos he needed. If he continues to come to the forum and we get to know more about him and his skill level then we could assist him more.

If you think someone is a troll then if you feel it necessary to point it out then report it to a moderator instead of possible insulting someone who might have really only wanted some help.
