Hello guys, Im sorry for my English since its not my first language (BSL is mine)

Anyways I need help and I hope I make it clear so you know what im talking about, Im thinking to purchased a D5100 soon.

There are 2 things I want but IS IT POSSIBLE to have both in one or what? (Im not experience at any camera and which is why im here to learn) Please no bad comment

A photo with blur background or front depend on the lens focus I know that but I also want WHOLE picture clear I mean nothing is blur even closer or far away a complete clear/quality
But I still do want blur depend on the pictures im taking so I want both is that possible?

I also thinking to get 18-300mm as well I need advice there are so many different ones and I haven't got a clue whats different or right one for me as above I explained
Hope to hear from you guys thanks

Yes it is possible with that camera. If you use aperture priority (A mode) then you can choose a smaller aperture like f/11 or f/16 and everything will be in focus with large depth of field. If you choose to have blur in the background and foreground then a large aperture like f/2 or f/1.4 would be necessary.

Have you thought about an 18-200 VR? It performs better optically and is lighter than the 18-300.

I would get 18-200 if that's recommend, and Im sorry I don't know whats f/11 f/16 means, can you explain bit more further and VR? sorry again

the d5100 can do the "blur" and give you a "nice clean picture". You will need to learn how to adjust your camera to do both, videos on the internet and taking lots of pictures will help. I use a 18-105mm on my d5100. Welcome to the nites, hope to see you posting soon.

I don't mind adjust but is it quick? Example I want to take 1 photo of blur and I got to do adjust for ages then change back to setting, or you mean with the lens adjust with my hand?

the adjustments can be very quick with an experienced photographer. For someone new to photography it will take some learning.

Ok your right I will go to my local, However I think I find 18-200mm is better than 18-300mm its cheaper and has no big different 200 and 300mm anyways

Think I have found the lens I needed "AF-S NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5 ED VR ll"
Will this get me both picture I needed? clear and blur? Mostly clear

Get the camera, read the manual it comes with, THEN ask questions. What you're doing is trying to learn how to drive a car without having a car! Doesn't make sense, does it? :)

Profile ...then we know where you live .....then we know what might be available locally .....why get an old model get the 5200 or if you dont want a flip screen the 3200.

The lens advice is good 18-200 nikon or sigma and you will get bokeh with it fine at the longer focal lengths ...

At 18mm, you get more clear. At 300mm you get more blur.

Fotojack, as we know, the camera can give a shallow or large depth of field depending on the focal length and aperture.
Mzeros doesn't know that and he is asking what to buy.
Your analogy with the car is good but you don't buy a car until you know that it will suit your needs.
i.e.
Just buy a car and then learn to drive. Oh dear, it wont fit in my garage because I didn't ask before buying.

He is jumping in at the deep end but at least we can throw him a lifebelt.

I tested the 18-200 for a long time. I decided not to buy it because every time I tried to take a picture downwards the tube moved out. But during my zoo visit it did a superb job.

After two weeks testing I decided to buy the 16-85 mm. For longer distance I use the 55-300mm
